In civil aviation, hangar doors must be totally reliable because opening them is a critical part of airline operations and on-time performance. Facilities are generally constructed with multiple bays which limits the effectiveness of conventional sliding hangar doors that create a large amount of dead space. Conventional sliding doors have not been sufficiently tight creating bird and air infiltration problems, resulting in energy loss and an unpleasant working atmosphere. Ice and snow in northern climates make it difficult to keep clean and operational due to the build-up of ice and snow.
The Megadoor is very tight sealed when closed. It does not need any floor tracks or space beside the door. The Megadoor design offers a possibility to reduction in building size and lower energy consumption.
